Abstract
The rapid growth of cities is one of the most important challenges of the twenty-first century. Over the past century, our world has rapidly become mostly urban, with cities representing the epitome of diverse and most pressing societal problems such as unemployment, climate change and environmental degradation. Efficiency and Creating a Sustainable Environment History shows that urbanization promotes development It is also clear that urbanization is a source rather than just a by-product of development and the least urbanized continents Africa and Asia show the highest rates of urbanization in the world. Thus, urbanization can be used as a powerful enhancer of changing living conditions and the environment.
Other challenges facing the growing cities and towns include the high proportion of the population living in slums, the growth and dominance of the informal sector, the lack of basic services in cities especially water supply, sanitation and energy supply, unplanned expansion along the periphery of cities and social and political conflicts over land resources High exposure to natural disasters and underdeveloped transportation systems.
In this research paper, we will try to apply strategic planning methods in the management of modern cities, and identify the importance of developing and approving strategic documents at all levels of government, and also explore the problems that hinder the introduction of strategic planning in municipal practice.
